About ACTIVE Strahan
ACTIVE Strahan is a group of people supported by the community, who are committed to improving the physical and mental health of the people in Strahan and the wider West Coast of Tasmania. After identifying a need in Strahan for social and physical exercise options the concept of the 'Beach To Bay' fun run and family day was formed. Starting in 2012, the committee is primarily focused on organising and running the Beach to Bay Fun Run, which is now in its 7th year. The motto for the race is "Walk it, skip it, run it" which embodies the inclusive nature of the day.
The Beach to Bay Fun Run is the main event held on the November long weekend.
Through the support of our generous sponsors and volunteers we are able to host a wonderful event and contribute towards facilities and services that benefit the physical and mental health of our community. In 2014 we installed 5 pieces of outdoor exercise equipment for the foreshore and throughout 2014, 2015 and 2016 Active Strahan facilitated a number of health and well being classes including pilates, tai chi, circuit training for beginners and mums with bubs, zumba and a 10 week Get Active Program. We also extended support to other events including the Amazing Race in Queenstown and the Strahan Community family night and Christmas Family night. Our project for the 2017 year was to design and install signage along the Strahan foreshore which highlights significant historical labour conducted in the area and exercises that mimic the type of activity.
